Fireplace inserts are heating units that retrofit into an existing wood-burning fireplace. Pellet inserts offer a fuel option that answers the need for clean-burning, renewable energy without all of the mess and work associated with burning wood.

Pellets are made of compressed sawdust, often using by-products that might otherwise end up in landfills. The fuel is consistent in size and comes in forty-pound bags. Simply pour the pellets into a hopper which feeds automatically into the stove. A 40-pound bag can typically provide heat for between 7 and 23 hours, depending on your selected rate of burn. Pellets are widely available at hearth specialty stores and mass merchants.

Pellet inserts utilize the existing chimney through a flexible, stainless steel flue liner specifically designed for pellet stoves.

Important considerations when deciding on your pellet insert include the size of your existing fireplace opening and the amount of space in your home that you want to heat. No need to worry about burn time or log length! However, pellet inserts require a small amount of electricity to run. During a power outage, a pellet insert or stove will only run with a generator, or for limited time with a battery back-up.

Reduce your home heating cost, especially if you heat your home with electricity or fuel oil. A pellet insert is a great way to change an existing, non-efficient wood-burning fireplace into a heat producing, cost-effective, and attractive source of zone heat
